Volair Mach 2 Forza vs SHIFT WB vs CTRL 2 Forza: Widebodies Compared
Edited by Dan · Published · Updated · How we research

Volair makes more widebody paddles than any other brand we cover. Its patented widebody shape (15.88 x 8.12 in) appears in five paddles at three price points, and three of them sit close together: the Mach 2 Forza, the SHIFT WB and the CTRL 2 Forza. This guide compares them using Volair’s published specifications and comparison chart, our spec-based rating scale and the buyer reviews on Volair’s own site. We haven’t play-tested these paddles.
Quick Answer
- SHIFT WB: the most power. A 14 mm full-foam core makes it the highest-scoring Volair widebody (9.1), but Volair sells it as final sale.
- Mach 2 Forza: the most control and stability. A thermoformed carbon paddle that Volair recommends for most players, with 450+ buyer reviews.
- CTRL 2 Forza: an aramid fiber face instead of carbon, for players who want a different feel. It scores lowest of the three on our scale.

Three Different Builds in One Shape
- SHIFT WB: a 14 mm full-foam floating core that Volair designed itself, with three flex channels cut through the foam, an EVA perimeter and a ring of carbon-infused edge foam, behind four layers of T700 carbon. Volair lists hot-mold construction with perimeter foam.
- Mach 2 Forza: a 16 mm polypropylene honeycomb core with foam-injected edge walls and a T700 carbon face, in a thermoformed unibody that is heat-sealed along the edges. It also comes in 14 mm.
- CTRL 2 Forza: the same thermoformed build and 16 mm honeycomb core as the Forza, but with an aramid fiber face that Volair describes as flexible, forgiving and impact resistant.

Research Ratings Compared
- SHIFT WB: 9.1 overall. Power 10, control 8.5, spin 8.0, sweet spot 10.
- Mach 2 Forza: 8.9 overall. Power 8.0, control 9.5, spin 8.0, sweet spot 10.
- CTRL 2 Forza: 8.4 overall. Power 8.0, control 8.5, spin 7.0, sweet spot 10.
All three rate 10 for sweet spot thanks to the 8.12 in face. The SHIFT’s foam core earns the biggest power bonus on our scale, while the Mach 2 Forza’s 16 mm honeycomb core and carbon face give it the highest control rating of any Volair paddle. Our scale has no category for aramid, so the CTRL 2’s face earns no material points for control or spin, which is the main reason it scores lowest. Volair doesn’t describe a surface texture on any of the three, although its comparison chart rates the Forza and CTRL spin as very high.
Swing Weight, Twist Weight and Weight
- SHIFT WB: swing weight 106, twist weight 7.35, 8.1 oz.
- Mach 2 Forza (16 mm): swing weight 112, twist weight 7.37, 8.0 oz.
- CTRL 2 Forza: swing weight 110, twist weight 7.32, 8.1 oz.
All three are almost equally stable on off-center hits, with twist weights between 7.32 and 7.37. The SHIFT swings lightest, which helps in fast hands battles. See swing weight vs twist weight.
What Buyers Say
- SHIFT WB: As of October 2026, 10+ buyer reviews averaging 4.8, with one below four stars; buyers mention control most often, then power.
- Mach 2 Forza: 450+ buyer reviews averaging 4.7; buyers mention control most often. Several say it lacks power, which matches its rating, and a few found less grit than they expected.
- CTRL 2 Forza: 40+ buyer reviews averaging 4.6; most low ratings are about shipping, and one buyer says its power is muted.
The Budget Widebodies
Volair also sells two budget widebodies. The Mach 2 has a T700 carbon face but none of the Forza’s thermoformed construction, and the Pro 2 has a fiberglass face. Both are on the USA Pickleball approved list and make sense as a first paddle or a backup.
Returns and Warranty
Paddles bought on volair.com can be returned within 15 days of delivery if unused or lightly used, minus a $20 fee, but Volair sells every SHIFT paddle as final sale. Volair’s warranty and returns pages describe a one-year warranty, while its FAQ says 180 days, so confirm the term before you buy.
Which Should You Choose?
- You want power and pop from a forgiving face: SHIFT WB, if you’re comfortable with a final-sale purchase.
- You play a soft, controlled game: Mach 2 Forza, or its 14 mm version (7.7 oz) if you want a lighter paddle.
- You’re curious about aramid: CTRL 2 Forza, which comes in a gift box with three overgrips.
- You want reach instead of a wide face: the hybrid Mach 1 Forza or elongated SHIFT EL.
