Buy at VolairOur 1–10 ratings, built from the maker’s published specs and scored the same way for every brand. How we score
Calculated from our four ratings, weighted for each kind of player. How these are weighted
On our spec-based scale it rates 10 for power: the all-foam core, 14 mm thickness, hot-mold build and 8.1 oz weight add power. Volair says it has accessible power that even a 3.5 player can use.
A 14 mm core gives it a control rating of 8.5, helped by its T700 carbon face and shorter widebody shape. Volair says the core connects to the handle so the 14 mm paddle plays like a 16 mm.
Its T700 carbon face gives it a spin rating of 8.0. Volair says the foam channels pocket the ball to add spin, but it doesn't describe a surface texture, and the widebody shape earns no shape points.
An 8.12 in face, 14 mm core, perimeter weighting from the carbon-infused edge foam and 8.1 oz weight give it a sweet-spot rating of 10. We count Volair's hot-mold construction with perimeter foam as thermoformed with perimeter weighting.
Each section is our analysis of the manufacturer’s published specs unless it says otherwise.
Manufacturer data
Volair publishes a swing weight of 106, one of the lightest of the Volair paddles we review.
Volair lists a 5.5 in handle: long enough for most players who hit two-handed backhands. The grip circumference is 4.125 in, the most common size; players with larger hands often add an overgrip. At about 8.1 oz, it is in the mid-weight range most paddles fall into. Comfort is personal: grip size, handle length and weight are the published specs that affect it most.
Manufacturer data
A published twist weight of 7.35, almost as high as the Mach 2 Forza (7.37).
Manufacturer information
The SHIFT uses a 14 mm full-foam floating core that Volair designed itself (patent pending), with three blade-shaped channels cut through the foam as flex zones that Volair says pocket the ball for spin and feedback. An EVA perimeter adds support at the throat, and a ring of denser, carbon-infused foam around the edge adds perimeter weighting. The face is four layers of T700 carbon fiber, and Volair lists the construction as hot mold with perimeter foam. The core stays connected to the handle, which Volair says gives a 14 mm paddle the feel of a 16 mm one. Volair's warranty and returns pages describe a one-year warranty against manufacturing defects for the original purchaser from volair.com (it excludes normal wear, abuse and modifications), although Volair's FAQ still says 180 days, so confirm the term before you buy. Paddles bought on volair.com can be returned within 15 days of delivery if unused or lightly used; you pay return shipping plus a $20 processing fee per paddle. Volair lists every SHIFT purchase as final sale (no returns); the warranty still applies, and if SHIFT stock runs out Volair says it will give store credit for the original price instead of a replacement.
Manufacturer description and buyer feedback
Volair describes the SHIFT as soft and responsive for patient play, with power when you attack, and says you can feel exactly where the ball makes contact. As of October 2026, Volair's site shows 10+ buyer reviews averaging 4.8 out of 5. In those reviews, buyers most often mention its control, followed by power. Only one was below four stars: a longtime Volair buyer found it more head-heavy, stiffer and less controlled than they expected. These reports don't add up to a consistent pattern the specifications don't already show.

View review →Volair's comparison chart groups its range into the fiberglass Pro 1 and Pro 2 and the carbon Mach 2 (its least expensive paddles), the thermoformed carbon Mach 1 Forza and Mach 2 Forza, and the aramid-faced CTRL 1 and CTRL 2 Forza. Its 14 mm full-foam SHIFT paddles and the CMD HYB are newer. Volair recommends the Mach 2 Forza 16 mm for most players.
Volair's 1 paddles (Pro 1, Mach 1 Forza, CTRL 1 Forza) use its hybrid shape, 16.35 x 7.5 in, while the 2 paddles (Pro 2, Mach 2, Mach 2 Forza, CTRL 2 Forza) use its patented widebody shape, 15.88 x 8.12 in, which trades reach for a wider face and a higher twist weight.
Approved: the SHIFT WB 14 mm is on the USA Pickleball approved paddle list (checked 2026-10-02).
No. Volair lists every SHIFT purchase as final sale, although the warranty still applies.
